To protect and care for wild animals, MP is planning an animal welfare project on the lines of Vantara. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has instructed senior forest officials to visit the Vantara center in Gujarat to study how it works and explore how a similar center can be created in Madhya Pradesh. A special team of forest officers is expected to visit Vantara very soon.

New Zoos and Rescue Centres Coming to Ujjain & Jabalpur

According to Ashok Barnwal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest Department, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Ujjain Zoo and Wildlife Rescue Centre has already been completed and sent to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), New Delhi, for approval. Work is also progressing quickly in Jabalpur, where the DPR is currently under preparation.

  • New Conservation Reserves in Omkareshwar Sanctuary, Tapti region, and Sonewani in Balaghat
  • Reintroduction of Cheetahs in Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve
  • Breeding Centers for Aquatic Animals:
    • Mahseer fish in the Narmada River
    • Turtles, crocodiles, and gharials in the Chambal River

To protect these areas from illegal activities and human interference, the Forest Department has proposed fencing over 160 kilometers of protected forest zones.
