Vantara elephant rescue: During Ahmedabad’s 148th Jagannath Rath Yatra, a sudden panic among elephants created a tense moment in the city. But in this time of need, Vantara, the wildlife care initiative founded by Anant Ambani, immediately stepped in and helped restore calm.
Three elephants, disturbed by loud music and crowd noise during the grand religious procession, became agitated. One male elephant broke away from the line, and two others followed. This caused a short period of confusion and danger during the event.
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the forest department quickly contacted Vantara, located in Jamnagar. In response, Vantara sent:
- 2 expert wildlife veterinarians
- 6 senior mahouts (trained elephant handlers)
- 11 trained support staff
- 5 specially equipped elephant ambulances
These ambulances had medical tools and behavioral support equipment to calm the animals and offer emergency treatment.
What Experts Said
Dr. K. Ramesh (IFS), Chief Forest Conservator, Gujarat, said:
“After the incident, we immediately called Vantara. Their team responded fast from Jamnagar and worked closely with local teams to calm the elephants and provide treatment.”
